Things to do
In Genoa, there are lots of streets called Caruggi. You can visit the Aquarium and go to see the Galeone "Neptune", a nice recreation of a pirate ship. In piazza Dante you will find what is said to be the house Christopher Columbus was born. Don't miss the Old Port and the via Garibaldi. There are also many events such as the Film festival of Genoa in June, the International Music festival in July and the International Boat Show in October.
Student neighbourhoods
The city is safe and prices for single rooms is around 350€ per month depending on the area. Studio or 1 bed apartments vary from 500€ to 700€ per month. If you're studing at science and engeneering faculties find a place close to the districts of Albaro, S. Fruttuoso, Marassi. If you're studying on the literature and economics faculties, the districts of city centre, Dinegro, Sampierdarena are perfect for you.
Getting around
By bus, ferry and train within the area of Genoa municipality, you must have the tickets. The monthly ticket costs 46.00€, and you can travel on the whole AMT and Trenitalia (by train, in second class from Nervi to Voltri and from Acquasanta to Pontedecimo). The one year ticket for students under 26 costs 255.00€. You have to buy your tickets at the AMT (the local transport company) and Trenitalia tickets office.
